General Settings

The General tab is your assistant's identity — the name visitors see, the greeting they get, and the dataset it draws every answer from. Set these first, because they shape the first impression.

Settings

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Assistant title"Your awesome AI Assistant"The heading shown in the chat header. Use your product or brand name so visitors know who they're talking to.
Assistant name"Seekdown powered AI Assistant"The internal name used in greetings and system context.
AvatarA default imageThe photo or icon next to the assistant's replies. Accepts an image URL or a direct upload (up to ~0.5 MB). A square image works best.
DescriptionA helper sentenceA subtitle shown below the title — use it to set expectations ("I can help with billing, returns, and product questions").
Welcome message"✋ I'm your awesome assistant!"The first thing visitors see when the chat opens. A good welcome tells people what the assistant is for and invites them to ask something.
Search box placeholderemptyThe grey hint inside the message input — for example, "Ask me about our products…". If left empty, the default placeholder from the assistant's language is used.

The dataset is chosen when you create the assistant and cannot be changed afterward — so pick the right one from the start. If you need answers from several sources, merge them into a single dataset with tags to keep the content organized.

Examples

A product support assistant:

  • Title: "Acme Support"
  • Description: "I answer questions about Acme products, billing, and returns."
  • Welcome: "Hi! I'm the Acme support assistant. Ask me anything about your account, orders, or our products."
  • Placeholder: "Ask me about your order, a product, or a return…"

An internal documentation assistant:

  • Title: "Engineering Wiki"
  • Description: "Search our internal docs, runbooks, and architecture guides."
  • Welcome: "What are you looking for? I can search across all our engineering documentation."
  • Placeholder: "Search docs…"

Troubleshooting

  • If the content count shows zero, add files or run a data capture job first — an assistant with an empty dataset has nothing to answer from.
  • If Create or Save is greyed out, a required field is still empty.
