Create a Memory Dataset
Before you fill anything, you make the container. A memory dataset takes about ten seconds to create — give it a name, optionally a description, and you're ready to start adding content.
Before You Start
- Your account should be active (a trial counts).
- Have a clear name in mind — something you'll recognize later, like "Help center" or "Product catalog".
Steps
- Open Memory datasets from the main menu.
- Choose New dataset to open the creation dialog.
- Give the dataset a clear title — something you'll recognise at a glance, like "Help center", "Product catalog", or "Internal policies".
- Optionally add a short description to remind yourself (or your team) what this dataset is for and what kind of content it holds.
- Create the dataset. Seekdown generates a unique dataset key (
ds-…) and sets up the indexer automatically.
Verify the Result
You'll land on the new dataset's details page. The Configuration panel shows the dataset key, index status, and content count (zero for now). Below it, the Latest contents area is empty and ready to be filled — with uploads, data capture jobs, or manual entries.
Dataset Settings
Set when you create a dataset, and (for a couple of fields) editable afterward.
| Setting | Default | Editable later | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | — (required) | Yes | The dataset's display name. |
| Description | empty | Yes | What the dataset contains. |
| Key | auto (ds-…) | No | The dataset's unique identifier, used by the API and OData. |
| Content type | CONTENTS | No | CONTENTS for normal knowledge; FORMS for an assistant's captured leads. |
| Enable indexer | on | — | Whether contents are indexed for full-text search. |
| Allow files | on | — | Whether content items may carry file attachments. |
Trial and free accounts get one dataset
Datasets that only store an assistant's form submissions do not count toward that limit.
Troubleshooting
- If you can't create one, you may be at your plan's or trial's dataset limit.
- If the page still says "creating", give it a second and refresh.
