Back Up and Restore Configuration
Before a big change, take a snapshot you can roll back to. A backup captures the whole assistant configuration — behaviour, appearance, forms, hints, translations, keys, and settings — in one JSON file.
When to Back Up
- Before rewriting the behaviour instructions.
- Before switching the dataset.
- Before a major theme or layout change.
- Before importing someone else's configuration.
Steps to Back Up
- Open the assistant's Settings.
- Open the Backup and Restore section.
- Choose Export to download the configuration file.
- Keep the downloaded file somewhere safe — name it with the date so you can tell backups apart.
Steps to Restore
- Open the assistant's Settings.
- Open the Backup and Restore section.
- Choose Import and pick your backup file.
- Confirm and apply.
What's Included
A backup contains everything about the assistant's configuration:
- General settings (title, name, avatar, description, welcome message).
- Behaviour (system instructions, memory settings).
- Search settings.
- Appearance (theme, colors, layout, floating button).
- Hints (all suggested questions).
- Translations (all language overrides).
- Forms (lead-capture form definitions and fields).
- Keys.
Verify the Result
After restoring, open the playground and check that behaviour, style, forms, and translations came back as expected. Ask a test question to confirm the search settings are right.
Troubleshooting
- Only restore from files you trust — a backup can overwrite your entire configuration.
- If a restore fails, confirm the file is a valid assistant configuration backup (a JSON file exported from Seekdown).
